Some of the things you will want to do in order to work as a wedding planner include:
- Get training. It’s advisable that you take one of the wedding planning courses being offered by local colleges so you can get an idea about how the industry works and what skills you need to develop in order to do well as a wedding planner. You may also want to work with established wedding planning businesses so you can get hands-on experience. I was personally trained by a wedding photographer Northumberland who knew all the tricks of the trade!
- Build a portfolio. Your portfolio will essentially show potential clients what you’re capable of as a wedding planner, so make sure to make one that showcases your skills. If you don’t have professional experience as a wedding planner, you can always talk with your friends and family to give you an opportunity to work in this capacity so you can build your portfolio.
- Register your business. This isn’t something that should concern those who are planning on working for established wedding planning companies, but those who want to start their own companies will need to register their business so they can get a license to operate. That way, you won’t experience any legal problems when you’re already working as a wedding planner.
